Dr. Sybert is an Associate Clinical Professor in Orthopaedics at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and The Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio.
Dr. Sybert is a partner in OrthoNeuro having joined the group in 1994. He specializes in the comprehensive treatment of pathologic conditions involving the Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar Spine. His main interests include Spinal Stenosis, Herniated Disks, Scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis, Trauma, Tumors and Infections involving the Spine. He embraces a conservative care model and philosophy. He works very closely with the non-operative Physical Medicine Specialist Dr. Emily Yu at OrthoNeuro to ensure patients have access to nonsurgical options for their individual spinal problem. When surgery is needed he is interested in minimally invasive techniques when appropriate. His spinal reconstructive techniques involve a variety of advanced implants, biomaterials and technologies.
Dr. Sybert attended The Ohio State University graduating Cum Laude in 1982. He received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986 from Ohio Universities College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating 4th in his class. He has earned numerous academic achievements along the way. He completed an Osteopathic internship at Grandview Hospital in Dayton Ohio and a one year surgical residency at Sinai Hospital in Detroit Michigan, before begining his four year Orthopaedic surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus Ohio. Dr. Sybert then completed a one year Spinal Reconstruction Fellowship at the Cleveland Spine and Arthritis Center under the mentorship of Arthur Steffee MD and Robert Biscup DO. It was during this time that he traveled to Hokkaido University in Sapporo Japan to study advanced spinal surgery techniques under Dr. Kaneda.
Dr. Sybert has been integral in the development of the SpineMed division of OrthoNeuro and serves as its director. He also is Director of Medical Education of The Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital overseeing the Spine Fellowship, the affiliated Orthopaedic residents from Grandview Hospital, and the OU-COM students that train at the facility. He serves on the Hospital's Management Board as well as the New Albany Surgical Hospital Foundation Board for research and education. Dr. Sybert holds numerous society memberships in Osteopathic Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery and Spinal Surgery including: CMA, OOA, AOA, AMA, NASS and The Association for Ethics in Spine Surgery. He serves on the editorial review panel of The Spine Journal and the editorial review committee of the AOAO. Dr. Sybert is interested in a broad range of spine related research from tumor reconstruction to artificial cervical disk FDA clinical studies to Finite Element Modeling of the spine and sacroiliac joints. He has been awarded US Patents for innovative technologies related to the spine that he hopes will one day improve patients' quality of life.
To relax Dr. Sybert enjoys skiing, mountain biking and fishing in Utah with his wife Debbie and three children Kenzie, Austen and Oliver.
